100 Stories: One year later 14 November 2021
There are a hundred
stories I could tell about these two Ballers in their first year of playing
Basketball.
- how Kirra dresses herself and turns up in party dresses to the Bullets Basketball Clinics and being one of only seven girls among 50+ kids.
- how Kaiya recently pivoted, bounced the ball and took a shot in a game and for a moment looked like a real Basketballer.
- the friendships, oh so many beautiful friendships, but also challenging moments of learning how to be a part of a team.
- the massive celebrations we do for the kids and their first ever baskets, Kaiya and Kirra have not yet reached that milestone in a game.
- the number of bribes and 'prize box' negotiations we have had to keep them turning up each week.
- the glimmer of hope we get in some moments they get enough confidence and success, that they actually enjoy hitting the court.
- the loud dance music we play while shooting hoops in the warmup time before training starts.
- the number of times we have done push ups at training because listening is tricky for an Under 9's and Under 7's team on half a court who train at the same time.
- how Kirra hit the siren on the score bench and stopped the game when there were no subs.
- the fact that Mummy and Daddy seem to be having more fun then the girls after a training session, but know that one day that will change (hopefully).
- being back in the community that we've known for almost two decades, and it's different now, but so good to be back.
So many stories, such little time.
