This could be the start of something new..... first Basketball training today. It's been 5 years since coaching for Michael. It was good fun.

Fast forward to 27 December 2021...........

Looking back. Ooohhhh the emotion! It was super charged energy in the car, as we drove to Basketball training for the first time. I posted on social media because I didn’t want to forget the moment (and the date) but it’s taken a whole year and a couple of Basketball seasons for me to be ready to write the Basketball stories.  

I remember Kaiya breaking down in the car from the pressure, even thought we were holding back as much as we could, she still sensed it.

Michael remembers Kaiya freaking out and being in shock that Daddy might beat her in this. I also think it was a bit of pressure that she sensed where she wanted to be really good at this thing her Daddy loved so much. Kirra sensed it too. There were lots of tears on the drive over from Wynnum to Sunnybank.

Both Michael and I remember feeling nervous and excited all at the same time.

Basketball training today. It's been 5 years since coaching for Michael. It was good fun.
Lead up to training was emotional. Everyone was nervous including Michael. Kirra is so tiny and 2-3 years younger but did everything, fell over the top of the ball a lot, and kept getting back up for more. Very tired but smiling the whole time. Kaiya came on and off the court, saying it's not who she is, and it isn't really, but then she kept going back out there, again and again, and again. Exactly the attitude from both girls that we hoped for and more. Michael was unsure at first, found it hard, didn't get through all the stuff he had planned but after a while said that he loved being back. Pretty good stuff. The team is all boys except our two and there is some serious talent amongst them. The kids had fun, and a good session. Only some drills were scrappy. This is going to be fun!

In our time at Hurricanes, I was really reluctant to share photos of others, but that tells so much of the story. So here I am being brave and sharing but really writing to the girls here in this forum. I can track the readers, and essentially, it's just us here. So here is the story, here are the photos. Here is our love of the game.  We are going a lot more local and this was our trials day with the Wynnum Jets. An organisation powered by volunteers and locals, founded in 2009. We had hoped that there would be kids from school, and more girls for Kirra's team. Two out of two. So far, so good.  Now we have met the organisers here before. When we enrolled Kaiya at her school we were walking along a path and heard the sound of basketball coming from the stadium. Diary Entry 25 March 2021: Pure awesomeness

On 25 March At basketball training I said hello Alex (7 years old), how are you? He replied "I'm surpassing my potential!. Then he showed me his move, dribbled the ball between his legs (with some fumbles), twisted around and took a jump shot.  This is why we do it.  These kids are pure awesomeness.
